Fly High!
Sunday 10th May Β· 11am to 5pm
On the Day
Here's how the day unfolds β though as any kite flyer knows, it all depends on the wind! βοΈ
The gates open, stalls come to life, and background music sets the mood. All approved stalls are open β let the festivities begin!
Expert kite flyers take to the arena. Professional teams perform their routines to music β expect incredible skill, massive kites, and plenty of "wow" moments. Displays run for around 1.5 hours and repeat throughout the day.
Enormous static kites including NASA-designed lifters, wildlife shapes and unusual characters will be in the sky all day long. Look up!
Grab a wood-fired pizza, a curry, a Pimm's, a hog roast, an ice cream and more. Browse the kite stalls and community stands whenever the mood takes you.
Bouncy castles, assault courses, bungee trampolines and face painting β the play zone is open all day to keep little ones thoroughly entertained.
Think your homemade kite has what it takes? From 2-3pm our photographer will be on special lookout for the best looking and best flying homemade kites - creativity counts! Winners and prizes to be announced around 4pm. One hour of high-flying rivalry!
The kites come down, but the memories last forever. See you next year! Don't forget to share your photos: #StreathamKiteDay
World-Class Talent
From kite ballet to NASA-grade lifters, this year's line-up will leave you speechless. Displays run throughout the day in the arena β watch out for their time slots!
Lex and Irma fly their kites in perfect synchrony to music β think kite ballet. Named after their first pair, Neptune and Jaws, they've been flying together since 2018 and were crowned UK National Champions in Dual Line Pairs. Utterly mesmerising.
Carl is one of the very few people in the world who can fly three two-line kites simultaneously to music. His display of control has astonished Streatham crowds for many years. Prepare to have your mind blown.
Keith's extraordinary kites were originally designed by NASA to assist with the descent of space capsules. Many square metres of pure power β sometimes he has to be tethered down. Watch as he attempts to harness the wind and lift off (but not quite into orbit!).
Bringing a spectacular collection of massive kites of all shapes β wildlife, fantasy creatures and unusual characters. These enormous inflatables fill the sky and delight crowds of all ages. You can't miss them!
Look way, way up β and you might spot delicate Indian paper kites dancing on the thinnest button thread. A skilled flyer can make them dash and dart even when they're barely visible. Keep an eye out across the common.
Kite Day isn't just for the experts. Bring your kite, or pick one up from our pop-up kite shops. Flying a kite is one of the most joyful, relaxing pastimes you can share with your family. Come and have a go!
